About us

The Thornton Practice is a surgery situated in the localities of Thornton-Cleveleys. We provide a wide range of general medical care for local people. Our practice has a long history of treating the families of Thornton-Cleveleys and the surrounding areas, providing high quality, patient-centred care. We provide an accessible and friendly service to all of our patients. We are enthusiastic about medical education and are proud to be a teaching practice for GP trainees, helping to ensuring the provision of future generations of GPs.

Our clinical team consists of GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Pharmacists, Practice Nurses, and Health Care Assistants. We also receive clinical assistance and support from the District Nursing Team, Health Visiting Team, Midwifery Team and the Treatment Room.

The Thornton Practice is a part of the Torentum Primary Care Network (PCN). Torentum PCN is a collaboration of 3 general practice’s; The Thornton Practice, The Cleveleys Group Practice, and The Crescent Surgery. Torentum PCN serves a population of 33,500 patients across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The PCN supports the provision of shared, accessible and co-ordinated primary and community care services with the aim of improving outcomes for patients.

The Thornton Practice is a member of NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). This is the organisation responsible for procuring high quality, safe and effective health services to meet the needs of local people.

We are also registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) under the Health and Social Care Act 2008. The CQC regularly inspect the practice to ensure that we are meeting national standards of quality and safety.
